Court jails fake LASTMA official in Lagos

<span;>David Oluchkwu, a man arrrsted for parading himself as an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has been sentenced to a four-month jail term.

<span;>Oluchukwu was arrested by officials last Wednesday at Lekki area of the state while impersonating personnel of the agency. He was convicted by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Mobile) Court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi on Monday for impersonating and extorting money from motorists particularly commercial bus drivers.

<span;>The 27-year-old was arraigned on a 2-count charge of “Conduct likely to cause breach of peace” and “Impersonation” before the Magistrate, Adesanya Ademola.

<span;>Ademola sentenced the accused to the jail term without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

<span;>The Magistrate said Oluchukwu had no option of fine but to serve his 4-month jail term owing to the gravity of the offence committed which the prosecuting counsel argued contravened Section 168 (D) and Section 78 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State (2015).
