130 Nigerians stranded in Libya return home

The National Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday received another set of 130 Nigerians stranded in Libya at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

This set of returnees makes the second batch of distressed Nigerians being assisted back to the country by the International Organisation for Migration within 24 hours. The total number of those returned home in the last day is now 281, a statement from NEMA said.

The Director General of NEMA represented by Adenike Ibitayo, Chief Search and Rescue Officer, received the returnes. A total of 69 females were brought back including 62 adults and 7 children. There were also 61 males which included 58 adults, 1child and 2 infants among those returned.

Some of them left the country with a view to seeking greener pastures in Libya or trying to cross over to Europe but became stranded in the North African country.

The International Organisation for Migration and the Nigerian Embassy in Libya have been in collaboration to aid the return of all those who expressed willingness to return to Nigeria.
