The National Broadcasting Commission, (NBC), has slammed a fine of five Million Naira on one of Nigerias private broadcast stations, Channels Television.
In a Letter signed by the Director General of the Commision, Balarabe Ilelah and addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Channels Television titled, “Broadcast of an inciting interview”, the commission cited a live interview with the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba Ahmed on one of its Political Programmes where he said it will be unconstitutional to swear in an elected president on May 29,2023 because of election irregularities.
NBC said it views the broadcast as capable of inciting violence as it also violates sections of the Broadcasting Code.
Channels Television is to pay the fine of Five Million within two weeks.
