The Sultan of Sokoto and leader of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Thursday April 20, 2023, as the end of this year’s Ramadan fasting.

The Sultan subsequently declared Friday, April 21, as the day for Eid-ul-Fitri celebration.

A statement on the verified Twitter handle of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs on Thursday evening confirmed the declaration.

The statement read: “The Sultan of Sokoto and Leader of the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Thursday April 20, 2023 equivalent to Ramadan 29, 1444 A.H. as end of Ramadan fasting for the year.
“By implication, tomorrow Friday April 21 equivalent to Shawwal 1 is Eid-ul-Fitri, he said.

“Sultan Abubakar, while making the declaration in his palace on Thursday, said the moon was sighted in parts of Nigeria and has been confirmed by the National Moon Sighting Committee.”
