Lagos Assembly Confirms 15 Commissioner-Nominees Including Abayomi and Omotosho

In a recent development, the Lagos State House of Assembly has officially confirmed 15 commissioner-nominees, including notable figures like Prof. Akin Abayomi and Gbenga Omotosho. This decision came as part of the second batch of nominations submitted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday.

During the proceedings, the Assembly also resolved to defer the confirmation of Tolani Akibu to a later legislative session.

This decision followed the presentation of a comprehensive report to the House by Mojeed Fatai, Chairman of the Screening Committee, during a plenary session on Thursday.

Notably, on August 23, the Assembly had rejected 17 commissioner-nominees from Governor Sanwo-Olu, which included Prof. Akin Abayomi, the former commissioner for health, and Gbenga Omotosho, the former commissioner for information. The reasons for this initial rejection were not disclosed.

However, during subsequent sessions, the lawmakers unanimously confirmed 22 other governor’s nominees through a voice vote after a thorough screening process in the Assembly’s Committee of the Whole.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, on the recent nomination submission, explained that some of the names that were previously rejected had been represented, with the addition of new names.

During the plenary session, Speaker Obasa praised the Screening Committee for its meticulous and comprehensive evaluation of the nominees.

The confirmed commissioner-nominees include Afolabi Tajudeen, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medem, Mrs. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, and Mrs. Bolaji Dada, among others.

It’s worth noting that the two commissioner-nominees who did not receive confirmation are Mr. Olalere Odusote and the former Commissioner for Budget, Mr. Samuel Egube.
