Taraba State University Fully Implements 50% Fee Reduction Policy Says VC

In a recent announcement, Professor Sunday Bako, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Taraba State University (TSU) Jalingo, confirmed that the university has successfully implemented the 50% fee reduction policy. The VC’s statement was made during a press conference in Jalingo, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The reduction in tuition fees follows a directive from Governor Agbu Kefas, who aimed to alleviate the financial burden on students amidst the current economic challenges in the country. Notably, the university had previously approved an increase in tuition fees from ₦50,000 to ₦70,000 before the governor’s directive.

As a result, Taraba State University has now lowered its tuition fees to ₦35,000, in full compliance with Governor Kefas’ directive.

Prof. Bako also revealed that the governor had generously sanctioned the renovation of a student hostel block. This move is set to address the longstanding accommodation issues faced by the university’s students. Additionally, the university is leveraging its limited Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to renovate another student hostel block, further alleviating the accommodation deficit.

The VC highlighted that the contractor responsible for the project had recently completed the hostel’s renovation, and the university would soon begin the allocation of rooms to students. Furthermore, the cost of hostel accommodation has been reduced to ₦12,500, down from the previous ₦25,000.

“We are deeply encouraged by the commitment of His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to enhance the quality and standards of education, particularly within our university. In alignment with his vision for educational transformation, we will continue to work diligently to improve our institution,” Prof. Bako affirmed.
