The targeted bullion van, registered under the number X pilot 13, belonged to the office of the Director of Finance and Administration, Governor’s Office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta. The occupants of the van included the Director of Finance, Taiwo Oyenekan, the driver, Olalekan Akintoye, and Peter Samson. Notably, the bullion van was without a security escort at the time of the incident.

The attackers, five unidentified armed men armed with AK-47 rifles, intercepted the bullion van on the Kuto Overhead Bridge, traveling in an unregistered silver Toyota Corolla. Swiftly surrounding the van, the armed assailants proceeded to interrogate the driver and sought information on the presence of rifles in the vehicle. The Director of Finance was specifically targeted, leading to a violent escalation that resulted in bullet wounds to his thigh and private part.

 

Tragically, the Director of Finance succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the State Hospital. Meanwhile, the driver and other occupants of the van emerged unharmed. At present, no arrests have been made; however, the police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

 

The Ibara Police Station has initiated an investigation into the incident, and the case will subsequently be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough scrutiny. Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, assures the residents of Ogun State that the situation is under control. Police operatives are diligently working to gather more information, with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Residents are urged not to panic, as measures are in place to guarantee their safety.”
