President Bola Tinubu on Monday signed the new Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000 into law.

The ceremony, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was witnessed by the leadership of the National Assembly including the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu as well as Tinubu’s cabinet ministers.

The event was held shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Following the agreement on the N70,000 National Minimum Wage after a prolonged dialogue between the government and the Organised Labour, the National Assembly passed the bill into law last week.

Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony, the Senate President described the President’s action as a great move and a great day for democracy and the Nigeriam worker.

Akpabio also seized the opportunity to caution against the planned nationwide protest against bad governance slated to commence on August 1, 2024.
