The Lagos State Police Command’s Anti-Bomb Squad has deactivated an Improvised Explosive Device in the Ikeja area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known on Wednesday.

“A vigilant police officer reported a suspicious white Corolla car parked near the gate of PMF 23 Barracks, with a young man dropping a bag by the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence before he zoomed off,” he said.

“Based on the report, a team of EOD-CBRN personnel was quickly mobilised to the scene to identify the object and render it safe if confirmed to be an IED.

“Upon arrival, the object was discovered to be an IED, and the area was subsequently cordoned off. Standard operating procedures were adopted and the IED was rendered safe, and taken to a safe distance for detonation,” Hundeyin explained.

He, however, assured the people that the area was calm afterwards.
