The Nigerian film industry is abuzz with the impressive debut of the new Inkbot thriller, The Betrayed, which has earned ₦14.7 million in its first week of release. According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) report published on Friday, August 9, 2024, *The Betrayed* finished in second place among the highest-grossing films at the box office for the week of August 2 to August 8.

Directed by Zulomoke Oyibo, The Betrayed follows the gripping and psychological journey of a young woman ensnared by a mysterious figure who suspects her husband of embezzling millions from a crime syndicate. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Uche Montana, Gabriel Afolayan, Adunni Ade, Ibrahim Suleiman, Jemima Osunde, Vine Olugu, and Stephanie Zibili. Notably, it was the highest-grossing Nollywood film for the week, showcasing the growing prowess of the local film industry.

Leading the box office was the Hollywood blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. The film grossed a staggering ₦127 million this past week, bringing its total gross to ₦354.5 million in just two weeks. The action-packed sequel continues to draw large audiences, cementing its top position.

In third place, What About Us, directed by Pastor Emmanuel Iren, grossed ₦9.9 million. The film, which delves into contemporary social issues, has amassed a total gross of approximately ₦87.5 million since its release on July 12.

The family-friendly animated comedy Despicable Me 4 claimed the fourth spot, grossing ₦9.3 million last week. Produced by Universal Pictures and Illumination, the film has enjoyed significant success, with a total gross of ₦74 million since its release on June 28.

Nollywood continues to make waves with several films performing exceptionally well. The Betrayed’s strong debut is a testament to the local industry’s ability to produce compelling and commercially successful films. The movie’s storyline, combined with stellar performances from its cast, has resonated with audiences, contributing to its impressive earnings.

In fifth place, the action-comedy Bad Boys: Ride or Die grossed ₦7.5 million for the week. Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the film has been a consistent box office draw, with a cumulative gross of ₦455.5 million since its release.

Nollywood epic drama Lakatabu secured sixth place with a weekly gross of ₦7.2 million. The film, known for its intricate storytelling and historical depth, has earned a total of ₦190.9 million since its release.

The animated sequel Inside Out 2 followed closely in seventh place, grossing ₦6.3 million last week. Since its release on June 14, the film has accumulated a total of ₦93.3 million, appealing to both children and adults alike.

Eighth place went to Twisters, an action thriller released on July 19. The film has grossed ₦31 million to date, with a weekly earning of ₦4.8 million. Its intense action sequences and gripping plot have captivated audiences.

In ninth place, A Quiet Place: Day One continued to draw audiences with a weekly gross of ₦4.6 million. The suspense-filled thriller has grossed a total of ₦142 million since its premiere on June 28.

Rounding out the top ten, Muri and Ko, directed by Biodun Stephen, grossed ₦3.2 million for the week. The film, which explores themes of love and friendship, has achieved a cumulative gross of ₦135 million since its release on June 14.
