Nigeria’s Falconets kicked off their 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Korea on Monday at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo, Colombia, .

Flourish Sabastine scored the winning goal in the 86th minute to give the Falconets all the maximum points

The first half was a tough encounter with both teams struggling to create clear chances.

However, the Falconets started the second half with renewed vigour.

A moment of anxiety followed when goalkeeper Shukurat Bakare misjudged a free-kick, almost giving South Korea a goal, but the Koreans failed to take the advantage.

The win marks a perfect start for the Falconets in the 11th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, and they will be looking to build on it as they aim to make a better opportunity in the tournament

On Wednesday, the team will return to action against Germany in their second group game before playing Venezuela on September 7.

The Germans defeated Venezuela in their group opener and will be favorites to win against Nigeria.
