Women affairs minister offers support to Borno Flood victims

Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the women affairs minister on Saturday extended “heartfelt” condolences to the victims of the devastating flood in Borno State, particularly the women and children who have been severely impacted by the disaster.

In a statement by her media aide, Musa Abdulrahaman, the minister promised assistance. 

“The ministry is deeply saddened by the loss of lives, displacement of families, and destruction of homes and livelihoods,” the statement reads. 

“In solidarity with the affected communities, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs is committed to providing support and assistance to the women and children of Borno State.”

The minister said the ministry is committed to work closely with relevant government agencies and humanitarian organisations to ensure timely and appropriate aid to the “most vulnerable members of the society. 

Mrs Kennedy-Ohanenye urged the residents to heed the warnings issued by the meteorological department and take necessary safety measures to avoid further loss of lives and properties.  

“By staying informed about weather conditions and following safety guidelines, we can minimize the impact of future floods,” she said. 

Borno flood

North-eastern state of Borno is currently facing a humanitarian crisis resulting from the severe flood in Maiduguri, Damask, and Bagga local government areas of the state.

No fewer than 37 people have died the flood

 The floods, which have submerged large portions of Maiduguri, the state’s capital and surrounding areas, have displaced thousands. 

Although floodwaters have begun to recede in some areas, the need for immediate relief remains critical.
