The management of a local refinery has dismissed a statement by the NNPC spokesperson, claiming that they sell Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N898 per liter describing it as “misleading and mischievous”.

“We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement,” said Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer in a state yin Sunday. “The Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will make a formal announcement on pricing on October 1, 2024.”

NNPC, earlier on Sunday, said it bought petrol from Dangote refinery at N898.

NNPC, as the sole buyer, commenced the loading of petrol from the refinery on Sunday.

The refinery explained that their current stock of crude was procured in dollars, and they sold products to NNPCL in dollars, achieving significant savings compared to current imports.

“With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country, regardless of their remote nature,” Chiejina assured. “We guarantee Nigerians the availability of quality petroleum products and an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country.”

The refinery’s response comes after a milestone achievement in addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity, which has plagued the economy for 50 years.
