Akin Lewis lead Africa Magic’s new drama series ‘Omera’

Africa Magic is gearing up to captivate audiences once again with its latest drama series, Omera, featuring veteran actor Akin Lewis and rising star Desmond Bryce. The new series, which is set to premiere on September 30, 2024, promises a gripping narrative filled with emotional depth, suspense, and cultural richness. Omera will air from Monday to Friday at 8 pm on Africa Magic Showcase, offering viewers a prime-time dose of drama, ambition, betrayal, and redemption.

Set against the vibrant cultural backdrop of an Igala community, Omera tells the story of a young man who, in search of a better life, makes the life-altering decision to “japa”—a Nigerian slang term for emigrating in pursuit of better opportunities. However, his dreams quickly crumble, forcing him to return to his homeland in failure and disappointment. As fate would have it, he inherits his uncle’s NGO, setting him on an unexpected path of power, ambition, and internal conflict. What begins as a journey of shattered dreams turns into a powerful narrative of hope, betrayal, and ultimate redemption.

Produced and directed by Femi Ogunsanwo, Omera aims to provide viewers with a deeply authentic and relatable story, while maintaining the high production quality Africa Magic is known for. “We’ve poured everything into this story,” says Ogunsanwo. “It’s a rich narrative that will leave viewers captivated and wanting more.”

The show’s all-star cast is led by the highly acclaimed Akin Lewis, whose impressive career in Nigerian cinema and television spans several decades, and Desmond Bryce, a fast-rising actor known for his dynamic performances. Their performances are expected to bring depth and gravitas to the central characters of the show.

Other notable actors featured in Omera include Lanre Ayanwale, Baaj Adebule, Godwin Williams, Mary Kowo, and Kingsley Nwachukwu, forming a strong ensemble cast that is set to elevate the show’s storytelling.

Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice, expressed excitement about the new series. “From the very first scene, Omera will have you hooked. The emotional depth, the twists, and the dynamic characters make this more than just a show—it’s a story that will resonate with viewers across the continent,” said Tejumola. “This is the drama series everyone will be talking about!”

Omera is expected to redefine prime-time television, offering audiences a blend of entertainment and culturally relevant themes that reflect the complex realities of life in modern-day Africa. The series’ mix of power struggles, family loyalty, and personal redemption sets the stage for what is sure to be one of Africa Magic’s most memorable offerings yet.

With its talented cast and compelling storyline, Omera is poised to become a fan favorite, continuing Africa Magic’s legacy of delivering groundbreaking and high-quality African television drama. Viewers can expect to be drawn into a world where dreams clash with harsh realities, but where hope and resilience ultimately prevail.
