Speed Darlington’s mother pleads with Burna Boy

The mother of Nigerian content creator and comedian, Speed Darlington, has publicly pleaded with Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy to release her son, who has reportedly been arrested. In an emotional video shared on social media, Speed Darlington’s mother alleged that her son was detained after mocking Burna Boy in a video.

Speed Darlington, known for his eccentric and humorous online persona, allegedly went missing on October 8, 2024. Reports suggest that he was arrested at his residence three days earlier, following the release of a video in which he made fun of Burna Boy’s connection with American rapper Sean “P Diddy” Combs. P Diddy has been embroiled in a legal scandal after being arrested by the FBI on multiple charges, including sexual exploitation, human trafficking, and slavery.

In the video that triggered the controversy, Darlington reportedly ridiculed Burna Boy for his association with P Diddy amidst the charges, which sparked outrage among some fans of the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer. However, Darlington’s mocking tone appears to have escalated beyond online banter, with allegations now surfacing that Burna Boy may have had a role in the comedian’s sudden arrest.

The allegations were brought to light by Speed Darlington’s mother in a heartfelt video posted online. With visible emotion, she revealed that she had only recently been informed about her son’s disappearance and his subsequent arrest. In a desperate appeal, she went on her knees and begged Burna Boy to forgive her son and “tamper justice with mercy.” She urged the music superstar to release Darlington from detention, calling for compassion and a peaceful resolution.

“My only son, Darlington, is in trouble because of a video he made about Burna Boy,” she said, visibly distressed. “I beg you, Burna Boy, please have mercy. I don’t want my son to remain in detention. I don’t live in Nigeria and I need well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid.”

As of the time of reporting, Burna Boy’s camp has neither confirmed nor denied any involvement in Speed Darlington’s arrest. The Nigeria Police Force, too, has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the incident.

This lack of clarity has led to speculation on social media, with fans and observers divided. Some supporters of Darlington believe the arrest may be linked to his satirical content, while others argue that the police or other parties might be responsible for his detention, unrelated to Burna Boy’s involvement.

As the situation continues to unfold, many Nigerians have taken to social media, calling for transparency and urging the authorities to clarify the comedian’s status. Speed Darlington’s mother continues her call for help, seeking the release of her son and praying for a peaceful resolution to the growing controversy.

For now, the entertainment world and fans alike await further developments.
