El-Rufai’s wife takes aim at Shehu Sani over Tinubu comment

Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has set social media abuzz after correcting a post by Senator Shehu Sani concerning President Bola Tinubu. Sani, who served one term as a senator for Kaduna Central, had posted on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting a correlation between Tinubu’s foreign trips and Nigeria’s rising inflation. He humorously stated, “New law of economics; When the President travels out, Taxes and Prices goes up.”

However, El-Rufai, known on the platform for correcting grammatical errors, was quick to point out that it should be “go up,” not “goes up.” The interaction sparked widespread reactions, with users debating the issue and adding humorous commentary.

This public exchange is seen by some as an extension of the longstanding political rift between Sani and the El-Rufai family, which dates back to their time as colleagues in the All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite their shared party affiliation, tensions led to Sani’s eventual defection to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), where he unsuccessfully contested the 2019 elections.
