REA MD Aliyu and top officials to illuminate energy summit

Abba Abubakar Aliyu, Acting Managing Director and CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), is set to address prominent energy professionals and government officials at the Oriental News Nigeria conference. Themed “Green Economy, Sustainable Growth, and Infrastructure Transformation,” the summit will be held in Lagos later this month. Aliyu will discuss REA’s initiatives to provide clean and reliable electricity across Nigeria.

Joining Aliyu is Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Dr. Agama will analyze key policies and options available to strengthen Nigeria’s national economy while aligning with the global shift towards promoting a green economy.

The Publisher of Oriental News, Yemisi Izuora, highlighted the ongoing economic slowdown experienced globally due to structural, global, and cyclical factors. Izuora emphasized that the strategies used to combat recession and stimulate rapid economic growth have often harmed sustainable development by contributing to environmental degradation, global warming, and other negative impacts.

“Shifting to a green economy will enhance natural capital stocks, protect the environment, and ensure social justice by providing practical tools and approaches for sustainable growth while reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities,” Izuora stated.

However, Izuora noted that the transition to a green economy is fraught with challenges. These include the absence of an appropriate policy framework, insufficient capital expenditure, varying levels of development, and diverse resource endowments. She stressed the necessity for innovative business models, strategic changes, and the adoption of responsible and cleaner business practices to overcome these obstacles.

The upcoming conference is expected to provide a platform for sharing insights and strategies to promote a green economy and sustainable growth. The discussions will focus on practical tools and approaches to mitigate environmental risks and scarcities, as well as enhancing infrastructure transformation.

Aliyu, known for his commitment to enhancing rural electrification, is expected to shed light on REA’s current projects and future plans. These initiatives are aimed at delivering reliable and sustainable electricity to rural communities, thereby boosting economic development and improving the quality of life for residents.

Dr. Agama’s presentation will focus on the intersection of economic policy and environmental sustainability. He will explore how Nigeria can leverage financial instruments and regulatory frameworks to support the transition to a green economy. By aligning national economic policies with global environmental goals, Nigeria can foster sustainable development while also addressing pressing economic challenges.

The conference will also feature discussions on innovative green technologies and responsible business practices. Participants will explore how new technologies can be harnessed to reduce environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, and support sustainable economic growth. The role of public-private partnerships in driving green infrastructure projects and promoting sustainable practices will also be a key focus.

The theme of the conference underscores the need for a holistic approach to development that integrates economic, social, and environmental considerations. As Nigeria seeks to navigate the complex landscape of global economic challenges, the insights and strategies discussed at the summit will be crucial for shaping the country’s path towards sustainable growth and development.

The Oriental News Nigeria conference presents a timely opportunity for stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue on the future of energy and sustainable development in Nigeria. By focusing on the green economy, the conference aims to highlight the importance of environmental sustainability in driving economic growth and infrastructure transformation. The participation of key figures like Aliyu and Agama underscores the commitment of Nigerian leaders to fostering a sustainable and prosperous future for the country.
