Asika’s post read: “I could not be happier to announce him as an Honorary Ambassador for the National Council for Arts and Culture @ncac_nigeria and celebrate him and his boundless energy and spirit. He is now the King of Steeze and brought global attention to #OjudeOba, the key traditional festival of Ijebu Ode celebrating the Awujale.”

The Ojude Oba Festival, a celebration of the rich traditions of the Ijebu people and the Awujale, the king of Ijebu-Ode, was held recently with its usual glitz, glamour, and cultural resonance. This year, Farooq Oreagba stole the spotlight. Clad in a flamboyant green and yellow Asooke Agbada, Oreagba made a grand entrance on a decorated horse. His unique fashion style, complete with red coral beads, a gold crossbody chain, an Apple wristwatch, stylish sunglasses, and a big tobacco pipe, exuded elegance and captured the festival’s spirit. His striking appearance quickly went viral, making him the “face of the festival.”

Oreagba’s presence at the festival not only highlighted his sartorial elegance but also brought attention to his compelling personal story. A former Head of Strategy & Business Development at the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oreagba was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and carcinoma in 2014, a cancer of the skin and bone marrow. He left his role at NSE to focus on his health and, after a two-year battle, was declared cancer-free. His triumphant return to public life and his role as the Managing Director and CEO of NG Clearing underscores his resilience and indomitable spirit.

In his Instagram post, Asika reflected on Oreagba’s journey and impact: “For at least the last decade, he has been getting on his horse, dressed in magnificent asooke, and representing his family and culture. My brother is a fighter, diagnosed with terminal cancer he has been fighting it for a decade and never been anything but positive. He has been an inspiration to us, his friends, and now we are sharing him with the world. He represents all that is good about Nigeria. Please celebrate him, a true Nigerian original!”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival was a vibrant display of cultural heritage, drawing notable figures from across the country. However, it was Oreagba’s striking appearance and his embodiment of hope and courage that left a lasting impression. His stylish and endearing presence not only showcased Nigerian culture to the world but also portrayed the indefatigable Nigerian spirit.

Oreagba’s viral photos and videos from the festival have been trending on social media, with many praising his unique blend of traditional and modern fashion. His story of overcoming adversity and his dedication to celebrating Nigerian culture have inspired many, making his recognition as a culture ambassador a fitting tribute.

As the newly appointed Honorary Ambassador for the NCAC, Oreagba’s role will likely involve promoting Nigerian culture both domestically and internationally. His influence and visibility are expected to bring greater attention to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, encouraging more people to embrace and celebrate their roots.

The 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, with its celebration of tradition and modernity, served as the perfect backdrop for Oreagba’s recognition. His story and style epitomize the festival’s spirit, blending respect for cultural heritage with a forward-looking perspective.

Oreagba’s recognition by the NCAC is not just a personal accolade but a symbol of the broader recognition of Nigerian culture and its ambassadors. It underscores the importance of celebrating cultural icons who, through their actions and presence, inspire and uplift their communities.
