Bayern Munich presented defender Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart to the media on Tuesday (July 16) after the 25-year-old Japan international signed a four-year contract last month.
Ito played 26 times for Stuttgart this season as the club managed to finish second behind champions Bayer Leverkusen while the left back, who can also play centrally, helped Japan reach the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup earlier this year.
“I am very grateful for the three years that I spent with VfB Stuttgart because it was through them that I got the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Ito told reporters in Japanese through an interpreter, adding “but from now on, I hope I can give my all to winning titles with Bayern Munich.”
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund praised Ito as “a very strong all-round player and defender, a really good guy.
