Just in: Sanwo-Olu reelected as Lagos governor

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress has been reelected for a second term in office after emerging winner of the governorship election conducted in the state on Saturday.

The election’s Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, declared Sanwo-Olu winner of the contest after scoring a total of 762,134 votes to defeat his closest rival, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party who came second after scoring a total of 312,329 votes. Peoples Democratic Party’s Olajide Adediran came third in the contest with a total of 62, 44 votes.

Details of the results as announced by INEC include:
Total no of registered voters – 7, 060195
Accredited voters – 1,182620
Total valid votes -1,155,678
Rejected votes – 17,953
Total votes cast 1,173,631.

The announcement of the result took place in the early hours of Monday. Results from 19 out of the 20 local government council areas of the state were ready as at Sunday afternoon. But proceedings were adjourned till later in the day to allow for the results from Eti Osa Local Government Council where a rescheduled election took place in 10 polling units to come in.

The results arrived at midnight after which it was announced to complete 19 local councils where the APC came out victorious. The Labour Party won at Amuwo Odofin Local Government Council Area.
The final results were eventually announced at about 1:15 am to officially give victory to the APC.
