The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, has postponed the Local Government Election earlier scheduled for May 6, 2023, to September 2, 2023.
A statement signed by the Administrative Secretary of EDSIEC, Sunday Osayande, informed that June 1 2023 will be the end of parties primaries as June 2 to June 15, 2023 has been fixed for the collection and submission of forms by political parties and submission of list of candidates.
On June 22, 2023, the commission is expected to publish the names of candidates, as campaigns are to commence on June 24, 2023.
Osayande added that submission of names of changed and substituted candidates will take place on July 8, 2023; while publication of notice of polls at the Ward Collation centres will be on July 26, 2023.
On August 1st 2023, the Commission will publish the final list of validated candidates, while August 22nd ,2023 will be for submission of names of Party Agents by Political Parties.
Campaigns are to end on the midnight of August 31st, 2023, as the Local Government Election will hold on Saturday September 2nd, 2023.
