The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele Tuesday morning told a federal high court in Ikoyi that he is not guilty of the allegations levelled against him by Nigeria’s secret police over the possession of a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without the appropriate license. He was granted bail in the sum of N20m and one surety.
Emefiele arrived the court premises around 9:20 am in a white hilux pickup vehicle, accompanied by arms-wielding, hooded officers of the Department of State Security (DSS).
Lawyer to the top banker, Joesph Daudu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), pleaded with the court to help stop the oppression of his client, who has been in detention for weeks. He added that he already filed an application for bail and served on the prosecution but the DSS objected, claiming that it has not been served.
