The Court of Appeal, following a hearing in Abuja, has reserved judgment on the appeal lodged by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule challenging the annulment of his election by the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal. The tribunal, in a divided 2-1 decision on October 2, had declared David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the March 18 governorship election, a position contested by Governor Sule, who secured victory on the All Progressive Congress (APC) ticket.
During the hearing before the three-man panel, presided over by Justice Onyemenam Uchechukwu, parties presented their arguments. The panel, after due consideration, opted to reserve judgment, with the date to be communicated to the concerned parties.
In addition to the appeal filed by Governor Sule, the court has also reserved judgment on the cross-appeal submitted by the PDP candidate, contesting the dissenting judgment of the tribunal.
Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the legal representative for Governor Sule, presented five grounds of appeal, urging the court to overturn the tribunal’s decision and uphold the dissenting judgment. On the other side, Kanu Agabi (SAN), representing Ombugadu, advocated for the dismissal of the governor’s appeal, affirming the tribunal’s judgment.
