Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has declared that there is nothing to fear about public safety during Nigeria’s 2023 General elections billed to commence in February.
With just 49 days to the elections Zulum who was on a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja on Friday said public safety is guaranteed before, during and after the elections in his state where Nigerian security forces are still fighting terrorists.
Apart from the activities of the insurgents, Borno State has also been in the news recently for political violence with the November 2022 attack on the PDP presidential campaign train in Maiduguri, the state capital.
But Zulum in an interview with State House reporters said there is no security problem in his state that can warrant any such fear over the safety of voters during the general elections. He said despite the heightened insecurity in 2015 and 2019, the people of Borno still came out to exercise their civic duties without any incident. He claimed that the security situation has improved 90 percent to what obtained in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
