Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Strategic Move: Advances Multimodal Transportation System with Key China Visits
In a significant move towards realizing his commitment to enhancing Lagos’s transportation infrastructure, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to depart for Beijing, China, on Tuesday. The aim of the trip is to solidify trade and investment deals with China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) and further inspect ongoing projects in the region.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by a high-profile delegation including the Hon. Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi, and other key officials, will engage in discussions at the CCECC headquarters in Beijing. The focus of these discussions will revolve around trade and investment opportunities that align with the development of multimodal transportation systems in Lagos.
During the visit, the Governor is scheduled to inspect the headquarters of CCECC, gaining firsthand insights into the operations of this influential Chinese construction company. Additionally, he will survey ongoing projects around Beijing, with a keen interest in the Signaling System (CBTC, etc.) and Metro projects executed by CCECC.
Later in the week, Governor Sanwo-Olu will journey to Dalian, where he plans to visit the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation headquarters and CRRC Lvshun base. A high-level official meeting is scheduled with the Head of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, CRRC Dalian, presenting an opportunity for substantial discussions on strategic collaborations.
The trip to Dalian will also feature Technical Discussions on the Designated Motors Units (DMUs) for the Red Line and Electric Motors Units (EMUs) for the Blue Line. Key stakeholders, including representatives from Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), CCECC, and CRRC Dalian, are expected to engage in discussions aimed at advancing the progress of these critical rail projects.
The delegation, led by Governor Sanwo-Olu, aims to leverage these engagements to strengthen partnerships and explore avenues for technology transfer and knowledge exchange. The visit aligns with the Governor’s vision to transform Lagos into a smart city with a robust and efficient transportation network.
The entourage, including the Governor, Hon. Commissioner for Transportation, Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation, and other officials, is expected to return to Lagos after a week of intensive discussions and inspections in China.
