Jigawa Govt greenlights 27k rice bags, 10,800 spaghetti for Ramadan palliative amid rising food costs
In a bid to alleviate the burden of high food prices during the Ramadan season, the Jigawa Government has given the green light for the procurement of 27,000 bags of rice and 10,800 cartons of spaghetti. The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse on Wednesday.
Musa clarified that the State Executive Council, during its meeting on Monday, approved the procurement of these food items as part of its palliative measures for the 1445AH/2024 Ramadan fasting period. He emphasized that the initiative aimed to ease the financial strain faced by residents due to soaring food costs in the market.
Additionally, the council endorsed the introduction of a special program called the “Jigawa Worker Agricultural Support Scheme (JWASS),” which provides agricultural inputs loans to civil servants across all levels. This scheme, part of Governor Umar Namadi’s food security initiative, seeks to empower workers and enhance food security within the state.
Musa outlined that an Extra-Ministerial committee had been formed to oversee the JWASS program, with the Head of Service leading the committee alongside key stakeholders such as the Commissioner of Finance, Commissioner of Women Affairs, Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, and others. This committee will coordinate the implementation of the scheme, ensuring its effectiveness and transparency.
