Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has called on politicians and electorate to conduct themeselves peacefully during the off-cycle governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States on Saturday November 11, 2023.
The former President in a statement by his media office charged politicians and their followers not to engage in any act that can lead to breakdown of law and order.
Jonathan also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), and the security agencies to ensure professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of their duties during and after the elections. He reiterated his appeal that nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen, adding that “a man who means well for his people would not recruit thugs to maim and kill the very people he wants to govern.”
“Democracy draws its strength from the people; let us work to strengthen the confidence of the people by ensuring that the electoral process is peaceful and transparent. It is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to allow the people to choose their leaders peacefully. That way, our democracy will grow and become sustainable,” Jonathan said.
