The Delta State candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 elections, Sheriff Oborevwori, has been arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Asaba over allegations of certificate forgery raised against him by a former governorship aspirant, Novwie Ikie.
Niger Delta Today reports that Oborevwori, who is also the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, stood in the witness box for cross examination and testified before the trial judge that he is the original owner of the West African Examination Council certificate in his possession which Ikie alleged to have been forged.
Presenting relevant documents to buttress his point, the PDP governorship candidate affirmed to the trial judge that he was born in 1963 and not 1979.
He also told the court that in an effort to correct the erroneous date of birth in his WAEC certificate, he swore to an affidavit and Deed Poll to correct the date.
The case has been adjourned to February 22nd, 2023, after the defence lawyers closed their case for adoption of written addresses by respective counsel.
