Katsina Govt greenlights ambitious ₦74.5 Billion township roads projects
In a landmark decision aimed at transforming the urban landscape, the Katsina State Executive Council has given the nod for a massive investment of ₦74.5 billion in the construction of additional township roads within the metropolis. Sani Magaji-Ingawa, the state’s Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, made this announcement during a press briefing in Katsina on Monday.
The ambitious project encompasses several key developments, with the highlight being the construction of the eastern bypass. This extensive road network will stretch from Dutsin-ma road to Kano road, passing through Daura road and culminating at Yandaki village in Kaita Local Government area. The strategic placement of the eastern bypass aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother traffic flow across the metropolis.
In addition to the eastern bypass, the project includes the dualisation of the Katsina Central Mosque road, extending from Kofar-Marusa to the Kiddies roundabout and concluding at the WTC roundabout. Another crucial dualisation effort will target the Yandaki-Shinkafi to Kofar-Sauri road, further augmenting the city’s infrastructure.
Sani Magaji-Ingawa outlined additional components of the extensive plan, revealing, “Another project entails the extension of the dual carriageway from Airport Junction to the proposed bye-pass along Daura Road. Similarly, we have approved the extension of the dual carriageway from Barhin Estate to the proposed bye-pass along Mani Road. The dualisation of the Water Board Roundabout through Kofar-Sauri to Katsina Central Mosque is also in the pipeline.” The comprehensive scope of these initiatives reflects a strategic approach to address multiple facets of the city’s infrastructure needs.
The China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has been entrusted with the execution of these monumental projects, with an anticipated completion period of 24 months.
These projects, awarded under the State Urban Renewal Project, are poised to bring about a transformative impact on Katsina’s urban infrastructure. Magaji-Ingawa emphasised that the positive outcomes would not only manifest in improved roads but also contribute to the overall enhancement of urban life, encouraging economic activities and fostering a vibrant business environment.
