Accusations of financial impropriety against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, face dismissal by the Lagos State government.
On November 19, Rhodes-Vivour took to Twitter, alleging that the governor used state funds to finance his defense in the LP’s election petition. He claimed that Sanwo-Olu disbursed ₦50 million to four lawyers from the state’s treasury.
In response, Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, rebuffed the claims, asserting that there is no truth in Rhodes-Vivour’s allegations. Omotoso emphasized that the referenced payment never occurred, highlighting it as an irregular request that was promptly flagged by the governor and disapproved.
The commissioner stated, “For the avoidance of doubt, Gov. Sanwo-Olu will never misappropriate public funds in defiance of his Oath of Office.” He also pointed out that Rhodes-Vivour’s supporting document lacked the official logo of the Lagos State Government or the endorsement of any officials.
