Nigerian Authorities Destroy Crude Oil-Stealing Barge

Authorities in Nigeria have destroyed a barge stealing crude oil from the country’s Niger-Delta region and selling to foreign collaborators.

The 820 tonne capacity barge, MT Brighton 1, was intercepted by security agencies at the creeks around Ramos River in Agge community, a border settlement between Delta and Bayelsa States.

A fuel station used to store stolen crude, refines it to diesel and sells to consumers, was also destroyed in Warri on the same day. According to the authorities, the fuel station had been identified and stopped in 2019 but the operators continued the illegal business. The facility has now been reduced to rubble to put a final stop to the business.
