NLC carpets CBN over scarcity of redesigned Naira notes

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress,  Ayuba Wabba has described as fake news claims by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, that all automated teller machines, ATM are now dispensing the redesigned naira notes.

The NLC President spoke about his experience late on Friday, January 13, after he reportedly visiting about ten ATM terminals within the Garki Area 8 in  Abuja.

He said he confidently approached the ATM terminals,  after watching a report on the Nigerian Television Authority, Nerwork News, which claimed that all ATM terminals are already dispensing the new naira notes.

Wabba said but to his displeasure, only the old notes were being dispensed at all the ATM points that he visited between the hours of 9:30pm and 11:30pm

He said it is heartbreaking for the Nigerian worker to be decieved in such a manner amidst harsh economic climate, poor, epileptic and expensive electricity supply, fuel scarcity and meagre take home pay.

The NLC President said the CBN is displaying incompetence for not keeping to its words with regards to the January 13 deadline for all commercial banks and ATM terminals to start dispensing the new notes.

He called on the CBN Governor, Godwin Emiefele to stop dishing out ill-prepared policies capable of putting struggling workers and citizens against the financial institution.

The Labour leader said the January 31st deadline to stop the circulation of old Naira notes may be a joke except efforts are intensified to make the redesigned notes available to Nigerians.
