Not less than seven personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been killed by suspected terrorists while on an official trip to Kuriga mining site in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
It was gathered that victims were ambushed and killed alongside 5 other persons from a sister security agency and local security service on Monday morning.
The NSCDC confirmed the development on its official Twitter handle, @official_NSCDC, saying: “Seven personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were ambushed and killed alongside 5 others from a sister security agency and local security service.”
The NSCDC also confirmed that the attackers carted away the service riffles of the slain operatives. It further explained that the bodies of the slain officers have been recovered and deposited at the Barau Diko Hospital in Kaduna.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, described the attack as a big loss not just to the agency but also families of the affected officers and the nation at large.
Audi has therefore directed that the Corps’ flag be flown at half-mast and that a national prayer session involving both Christians and Muslims be organised at the the national headquarters, Abuja, to pray for God’s protection for all the Corps’ officers and men.
