Thousands of Parisians march for peace in Gaza, as war resumes

Thousands of Parisians took to the streets of Paris on Saturday (December 2), to call for peace in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza.

 

People of all ages, some wrapped in traditional Palestinian keffiyehs, could be seen waving Palestinian flags and chanting “We are all Palestinian” or “Israel criminal state,” as they called for a ceasefire.

 

The protest comes as fighting in Gaza and Israel has resumed, after a temporary truce between Israel and Hamas collapsed on Friday (December 1). Israel and Hamas have traded blame over the collapse.

 

War broke out on Oct. 7 when Hamas militants crossed into Israel and killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians.

 

Some 193 Palestinians had been killed since the truce expired, the Gaza health ministry said on Saturday, adding to the death toll of more than 15,000 Gazans announced by Palestinian health authorities.

 

Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have taken place every Saturday in Paris for several weeks, drawing thousands of demonstrators each time.
