Vice President Kamala Harris has finally announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) as her running mate for the November election against Donald Trump.
Kamala Harris announced Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, as her vice presidential nominee for November’s elections.
The Democrats presidential nominee made this announcement via an X post on Tuesday.
Harris said, “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team. Now let’s get to work.”
Walz, 60, was a surprise contender for the vice-presidential spot, gaining momentum in recent days, particularly after a cable news interview where he criticised some Republicans as “weird”.
This choice comes after initial speculation focused on other prominent Democrats, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly (D).
Walz’s selection as Harris’s running mate was also seen as a strategic move to appease the left, given his strong liberal credentials.
