The outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Wendy Laing, has spoken about her “fabulous time” serving in the country saying she’s particularly fascinated by Nigeria’s music, dance and culture.

Laing spoke during a farewell visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja after her four and a half years tour of duty.

“Iโ€™m sad to be leaving”, the diplomat said adding, “Nigeria is so much fun, I had a fabulous time here, and Iโ€™ll be back. I love the dance, the music, the culture. Itโ€™s been good to experience Nigeria. Iโ€™ve been to over 20 States, and Iโ€™ve told my successor to also do the same. Iโ€™ll be back, and still travel wider.”

A statement from Mr Buhariโ€™s media office said Liang congratulated the president for a very successful 8 years in office, saying he had done very well to hold the country together.

President Buhari in turn told Mrs Laing that the United Kingdom was second home for many Nigerians, and relations between the two countries will continue to wax strong.

“In fact, some wealthy Nigerians donโ€™t feel complete till theyโ€™ve had a home in the UK”, Buhari said.

Buhari, who also said he looked forward to retirement in Daura, Katsina State, after handing over on May 29, added that he will be “as far away from Abuja as possible.”

He lauded the Government of the United Kingdom for cooperation on many fronts, particularly in the rebuilding of the North East, hitherto ravaged by insurgency.
