A human rights lawyer and father to popular Nigerian recording artist and actor Folarin Falana better known as Falz the bahd guy, Femi Falana SAN, has made some startling revelations on how his son embarrasses the government.
Falana, who disclosed on Sunday while speaking at the 2nd anniversary of the Odumakin Oluyinka Lecture in Lagos, explained that Falz’s action was a consequence of what he was made to experience while growing up.
He said that his frequent arrest as a legal practitioner always disturbed his son, who believed he was a criminal.
“One of these guys one day said, ‘Femi talk to your son; he should stop embarrassing the government. I said which government?, Do you mean that child who is an adult? Can I give you his number so you can speak to him? But he was cautious because when he was growing up. I was apprehended from time to time. So, the only language he comprehended was an arrest, detention and the rest of them.
”When Falz was six, he asked his mother, “Our instructor taught us that only offenders were detained
Is my dad a criminal? Why is he always being arrested? And the mother had to tell him that in Nigeria, under the military, only two sets of persons were detained.
Political suspects and criminal suspects. Political suspects are those who expose the criminality of the government. That is what you see going on.”
This comes days after Falz and Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, professionally known as Vector, expressed their views about the process and consequence of the 2023 elections in their latest song, ‘Yakubu‘, titled after the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
