In a surprising show of bipartisan acknowledgment, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Lagos State has commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s remarkable strides in various sectors. Adekunle Mode-Adenipebi, the Lagos State ZLP Chairman and the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming 2023 elections, lauded the government’s achievements in transportation, security, health, education, and human capital development.
Expressing his views during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, December 05, 2023, in Lagos, Mode-Adenipebi provided a comprehensive assessment of the government’s performance. He particularly acknowledged the commendable efforts made by Governor Sanwo-Olu in enhancing security and fostering human capital development.
Highlighting the successful attraction of investors to the state, Mode-Adenipebi specifically praised the administration’s accomplishments in rejuvenating transportation networks and alleviating traffic congestion on Lagos roads. However, the ZLP Chairman also pointed out areas where additional efforts are needed, specifically focusing on education and healthcare.
In the realm of education, Mode-Adenipebi urged the government to address the growing population by increasing the number of universities in the state. Leveraging his background as an educationalist, he offered assistance in navigating the technicalities of establishing more universities. This proactive stance aligns with the ZLP’s vision for a robust and accessible education system in Lagos.
Furthermore, Mode-Adenipebi emphasized the need for improvements in the healthcare sector, particularly in infant treatment. He advocated for the establishment of additional specialist hospitals across the senatorial districts, emphasizing the importance of accessibility to quality healthcare services for all residents. “We expect Sanwo-Olu to create at least three specialist hospitals in each senatorial district,” he stated.
While lauding the governor’s initiatives in transforming the transportation sector, Mode-Adenipebi specifically applauded the administration’s commitment to reviving long-abandoned modes of transportation, including rail and water transport. Noteworthy achievements include the inauguration of the Lagos Blue Line Rail for commercial operation and the procurement of new trains for the Oyingbo-Agbado Red Line.
Despite acknowledging progress in water transportation, Mode-Adenipebi urged the government to place a heightened focus on the security of commuters on waterways. He stressed the importance of increasing the personnel of the marine police for effective water patrol, ensuring the safety and well-being of those utilizing water transport options.
In this unexpected bipartisan gesture, the Zenith Labour Party’s commendation reflects a nuanced approach to governance, acknowledging successes while advocating for continued improvements in critical sectors for the benefit of all Lagos residents.
