The Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the ruling of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal
which nullified the election of Ademola Adeleke as the governor of the state.

The Tribunal had on Friday in a split judgement ruled that Adeleke of the PDP was not validly elected in the July 16, 2022 exercise and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and reissue same to Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress whom the tribunal decided was the winner of the election.

Senator Adeleke had described the Friday-morning ruling as a “miscarriage of justice” and vowed to launch an appeal against it.

His party has now lent a voice to the rejection of the ruling as a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, said the judgment of the Tribunal was contrary to the will of the people of Osun State which was expressed by the votes cast for the party and its Candidates at the election.

Ologunagba argued that the governorship election in Osun State was adjudged by Local and International Observers to be free, fair and clearly won by the PDP and that its Candidate, Ademola Adeleke in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people.

The PDP spokesperson said the will of the people of Osun State as expressed by electing Adeleke must be respected adding that as a law-abiding Party, the PDP would explore all available legal means to restore its victory.
