A Federal High Court in Abuja will on February 20 rule on the bail application filed by Ali Bello and 3 others in an alleged N3 billion fraud charge brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu fixed the date on Tuesday after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense counsel.

The defendants counsel Ahmed Raji urged the court to grant Ali Bello and his co- defendants bail based on the terms and conditions of the court or on liberal terms.

He said the EFCC in their affidavit and counter affidavit didn’t show why the defendants shouldn’t be granted bail.

He said the prosecution relied on mere allegations with no evidence to show how the defendants if granted bailed could temper with the witnesses most of which are EFCC personnel and bank officials.

The prosecution counsel M.K Hussain however opposed the application saying two separate counter affidavits were filed in respect of the motion.

He said the defendants have the capacity to temper with evidence and may likely jump bail. He urged the court to refuse their application for bail.

The court then fixed Monday for ruling on the bail application.

The defendants have pleaded not guilty to an 18-count charge in an alleged N3 billion fraud brought against them by the EFCC.
