Kebbi governorship election declared inconclusive7

The Returning Officer for the Kebbi State governorship election, Yusuf Saidu has declared the exercise inconclusive following the outbreak of violence, disruption of election the voting process and over-voting in 20 local government council areas of the state. Kebbi has 21local government councils.

The election crisis had led to attacks on four adhoc personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission who are also members of the National Youth Service Corps. The personnel were critically injured as a result of the incidents.

Yusuf declared the inconclusivity of the election in Birnin Kebbi after 9 hours of collation of results from the local governments areas.

According to the INEC, 91,808 registered voters in the troubled areas were disefrenchised by political thugs. From the results declared so far, the All Progressives Congress candidate , Nasir Idris is leading with over 388 thousand votes followed by the Peoples Democratic party’s Aminu Bande who polled 342,989.

Coming third is the Peoples Redemption Party’s governorship candidate with 3,103 votes.

During the collation exercise, opposition parties’ agents raised concerns over the electoral malpractices, citing how the collation officer of Gwandu Local Government Area with 82,200 registered changed 17 polling units in 7 wards without following due process and later absconded with election materials for hours before showing up at the collation centre on Sunday.

Before the pronouncement , the PDP agent declined signing the collation results sheet.

In the same vein, 6 local government areas election in the state house of assembly election results were also declared inconclusive including Yauri, Kalgo, Gwandu, August and koko-besse.

But results for Bagudo East, Bagudo West, Suru, Sakai, Arugungu, Zuru, Dandi, Ngaski, Shanga Birnin Kebbi South, Bunza, Wasagu/Danko East and west were declared. The APC won 11 seats while the opposition PDP won two.

Results of the assembly election from 5 local government councils are still being expected according to INEC.
