5 people killed in another attack on Benue community

Three mourners have been killed at Ankpali village in Edikwu District of Apa Local Government Area of Benue state.

According to a community leader George Adikwu, the victims, who were natives of Ankpali villaga, were ambushed while returning from a funeral in Ugbokpo, the local government headquarters, at the weekend.

He also said the attackers left many residents with various degrees of injuries while several other persons are still missing.

The incident came barely two weeks after a similar attack on Ugbobi community claimed the lives of the traditional ruler of the community and several others and a week after Olijamu village was attacked also in a similar pattern.

The latest attack, by suspected also Opaha community in the same local government area were two people were reportedly killed and many others injured.

Opaha is some few kilometers to Umogidi, where over fifty people were killed last month.

The Benue State Police Command was yet to confirm the attacks as at the time of this report. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to receive any report of such incident.

Anene, however, confirmed the arrest of one Ephraim Ternenge Iortser of Logo local government area of the state for allegedly conniving with criminal herders to facilitate an attack on Anyiin community.

She said the suspect was seen along the Taraba-Benue border wandering in a suspicious manner hence his arrest.

“Futher investigation is on going to reveal more information about the suspects involvement in recent attacks and possible arrest of other suspects involved in carrying out such heinous crime”, She said.
