JOHESU strike: extended suspension expires

There is palpable apprehension whether or not the Joint health sector unions, JOHESU will return to strike, at the expiration of a three week suspension period.

 

JOHESU National Vice Chairman , Obinna Ogbonna who represented the National Chairman, Biobelemoye Josiah at a meeting with President Bola Tinubu On June 5, 2023 at Aso rock, had announced a suspension of an indefinite strike by three weeks.

 

While answering questions on Raypower FM Network programme, Political Platform on Thursday, Obinna Ogbonna commended the swift intervention of the Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Labour and employment, Daju Kachollon for ensuring industrial peace reigns in the health sector.

 

The JOHESU National vice chairman said the Permanent Secretary had met with its executive on June 27 and pushed government’s position of meeting the health workers demands.

 

While calling on the Daju Kachollon-led federal government team to sustain the process of implementation of resolutions reached, he enumerated the demands to include the adjustment of the consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS and the payment of Pecularity allowance.

 

Others include consultancy cadre implementation for pharmacists as approved by office of the head civil service of the federation through a circular, the delay in the payment of covid allowance balance and the new hazard allowance payment to workers in agencies which are not clinics or hospitals but are exposed to hazards like the leprosy hospitals and federal laboratory science centres.

 

Ogbonna listed the demands to include approval of retirement age from 60 to 65 years and 70 years for consultants.
