SERAP threatens court action against NBC

The Socio – Economic Rights And Accountability Project, SERAP has instructed the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC to withdraw it warning against controversial Television station, ARISE TV over alleged use of ‘derogatory and incendiary remarks’.

The non-partisan organisation made their demand known in a recent post on it official X account formerly known as Twitter where it described ‘the final warning’ of the regulatory body to ARISE TV as a threat that should be withdrawn immediately else they risk facing legal action.

“The Tinubu administration must instruct the NBC to withdraw the purported ‘final warning’ to Arise TV over alleged use of ‘derogatory and incendiary remarks’ on its programmes. ⁣ We’ll see in court if the threat is not immediately withdrawn.”

NBC in a letter titled ‘Preponderance of derogatory and incendiary remarks’: final warning,’ to the Chief Executive Officer, Arise Global Media Limited on Friday, October 6, 2023 by the Director General, Dr Balarabe Shehu Ilelah was a reaction to the station’s flagship programme, The Morning Show of October 5, 2023, where the remarks of Seasoned Public Speaker and Lawyer, Dele Farotimi were said to contain unguarded incendiary remarks.
