Property destroyed as tanker explosion rocks Lagos

A huge tanker fire caused panic at Ijora area of Lagos on Thursday evening.

The fire incident  was as a result of collision impact. It occurred when a petrol tanker ascending the Ijora bridge rolled back onto another tanker and vehicles. The two tankers and other vehicles were immediately engulfed in fire.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said: “The number of people trapped in the inferno could not be ascertained now but preliminary assessments revealed that 3 container laden trucks,
2 tankers laden with unknown but highly inflammable contents , 1 tipper truck laden with gravel, 1 flat bed trucks and 3 cars are in the pile up.”

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service later issued an update saying the raging fire was curtailed a few hours after.

The update issued by Adeseye Margaret partly reads: “The raging Fire has been curtailed as the dampening of pockets of Fire continues to allowing for investigation to reveal the cause and the evacuation of the carcass to bring about normalcy.

11 vehicles which include:
2 tankers,
1 tipper truck,
3 trailers
3 cars and
2 micro-mini busses ie korope

“*Casualty*
No life and no injuries recorded as occupants escaped unhurt.”
