Just in: Supreme Court delivers Atiku, Obi's suit challenging Tinubu's election Thursday

The Supreme Court will on Thursday deliver its verdict in the suit by presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart in the Labour Party, Peter Obi challenging the declarartion of Bola Tinubu as winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

 

Our correspondent gathered that the parties have received communications from the apex court including a request for them to send names of their representatives for security clearance and admittance into the court ahead of the proceedings on Thursday.

 

On Monday, Atiku asked the court to allow a new piece of evidence from the United States, which he said confirms that Tinubu submitted a forged certificate purportedly issued by the Chicago State University, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),a request which the Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress legal teams opposed.

 

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on that motion as well as the main appeal challenging the decisions of the Justice Haruna Tsammani – led Presidential Election Petitions Court which dismissed the petitions from Atiku and Obi last September for lacking in merit.

 

Obi has 51 grounds of appeal, contesting errors in that judgement while Atiku has 35 grounds of appeal.

 

The seven member panel of the Supreme Court is led by Justice Inyang Okoro.
