President Tinubu Hosts German Chancellor

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

It is the first visit of any Euroepean leader to Nigeria since the Tinubu administration was inaugurated on May 29,2023.

Mr Scholz was received at the forecourt of the presidential villa by President Tinubu leading other top government officials.

Both leaders immediately went into a private meeting and later emerged for bilateral political discussions.

In his opening remarks, President Tinubu said the affirmation of his election by the Supreme Court last week, signalled the end of distractions and his readiness for a transformation in bilateral relations. He emphasized the need for improved cooperation in various areas, including security, natural resources, education, and democracy. Tinubu expressed gratitude to the German government for past assistance in security training.

Chancellor Scholz underlined the necessity of further collaboration, especially in infrastructure development, electrification, and energy. He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his role as leader of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), calling for joint efforts to promote peace and stability in Africa and across the world.
