Katsina State Government to enact social protection law

In a bid to uplift the standard of living for its citizens, the Katsina State Government is on the verge of enacting a law on social protection, as announced by Bello Kagara, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

Speaking during the second day of a 4-day review and validation of the state’s social protection policy in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa, Kagara expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of participants in shaping the state’s future. He stated the government’s recognition of the value of social protection, attributing the impending law to the foresight of Governor Dikko Radda.

“Very soon, by the grace of Allah, the state will enact a law on social protection. This is part of Governor Dikko Radda’s vision to uplift the standard of living of all citizens of the state,” he declared.

Kagara assured that the state government eagerly anticipates the outcomes of the ongoing exercise, emphasising that it would garner the governor’s endorsement.

“The policy will ensure social and economic security. It is beyond the poor, the vulnerable, the children, people with special needs, but is all-inclusive,” he added.

Highlighting the comprehensive nature of the policy, Kagara stated that its effective implementation would involve not only the poor and vulnerable but also encompass the well-to-do individuals within the community.

Mohammed Danrimi, the Director of Planning in the ministry, commended the commitment of the participants to understanding and advancing the crucial field of social protection. The social protection policy review and validation exercise was organised by the ministry with the support of UNICEF.
