Presidency Extends Congratulations to Nigerian Music Stars on 2024 Grammy Nominations

The Presidency has extended warm congratulations to a stellar lineup of Nigerian music talents who secured nominations for the prestigious 2024 Grammy Awards.

 

 

The quintet comprising Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr proudly earned their places on the Grammy nominations list, unveiled on Friday, November 10, 2023.

This recognition underscores the remarkable international ascent of Nigerian music, with homegrown luminaries consistently adding to their accolades on the global stage.

 

In a Friday evening announcement via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the Nigerian contingent for their well-deserved nominations.

 

Onanuga tweeted, “Congratulations to Nigerian singers Davido, Burna Boy, Asake/Olamide, Ayra Starr for their nominations in the 66th Grammy Awards, scheduled for Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.”

 

All five Nigerian artists secured nominations in the inaugural African Music category, with Davido for ‘Unavailable,’ Burna Boy for ‘City Boy,’ Ayra Starr for ‘Rush,’ and Asake for ‘Amapiano,’ featuring Olamide.

 

Burna Boy’s fourth consecutive Grammy nomination is a testament to his consistent excellence, while Davido, Olamide, Asake, and Ayra Starr all marked their debut nominations, underscoring the undeniable dominance of Nigerian mainstream music on the African continent.

 

Notably, Nigerian Pop sensation Fireboy earned his inaugural Grammy nomination for his contributions to Jón Batiste’s ‘World Music Radio,’ nominated for Album of the Year.

 

Furthermore, ‘Love Nwantiti’ crooner CKay secured his first nomination for his collaboration on Janelle Monae’s ‘Age of Pleasure,’ a project that also featured Seun Kuti, completing the impressive ensemble of Nigerian talents recognized by the Grammys.
