National security adviser urges Labour to halt strike amidst condemnation of NLC President's attack

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has expressed deep concern over the nationwide strike declared by Organised Labour, spearheaded by the NLC and TUC. The NSA is apprehensive about the potential ramifications of the strike on the livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians and its possible impact on economic security and other critical national interests.

The alarm was raised following an immediate intervention by the NSA upon learning about the assault on Comrade Joseph Ajero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), in Owerri, Imo State. The NSA condemns the incident unequivocally, deeming it a violation of the rule of law and the principles of freedom of association and expression endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration.

In a firm stance, the Federal Government, under no circumstances, will tolerate such actions. In response to the assault, authorities were directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Encouragingly, several arrests have already been made, with updates on the investigation to be disclosed upon its conclusion.

The Federal Government, through the Office of the NSA, appeals to the leadership of the labour movement to rescind the ongoing strike and allow the ongoing dialogue process to reach a resolution. The government is committed to addressing concerns through constructive engagement and maintaining the well-being of the nation.
